Balance of Power

The increasing demand for electricity, renewable energy and the rise of things like electric vehicles are putting incredible pressure on the energy grid. Better aligning energy demand and supply could reduce grid stress. If consumers are flexible about whether and when to use energy, they could reduce grid stress and reduce their own energy costs.
USEF (Universal Smart Energy Framework) asked for the development of a serious game. The game should make possible flexibility markets more tangible, let decision and policy makers feel the sense of urgency and the potential of flexibility. As such, the game supports the international energy discussion on future energy markets.
We developed an interactive video-based game about a smarter energy future. As a player, you are a journalist filming the Energy Minister, when solving key dilemmas on her road to the presidency. When hearing out different stakeholders, she turns to you for advice. The game can be played browser based on mobile and lap/desktop.
The game is public for anybody with an interest in energy, energy transition and flexibility markets. The game has been launched 7th of November, 2018 at the European Utility Week in Vienna.
